‘My ideas of choreography are based on the principles of the neo-classical style. I combine a possibly brilliant classical technique with individual body-language, in dynamic allegros and passionate adagios. Talents and personalities of the dancers should be in the foreground of my choreographies.’

Ivo van Zwieten was born in Gorinchem in Holland. After Ivo graduated from my secondary school (C.S.E), Ivo attended the Rotterdam Dance Academy. Then Ivo went to study at the Ballet Academy of the Heinz Bosl Stiftung in Munich under Konstanze Vernon from 1992 until 1994

His first engagement brought him to the Stadttheater Wurzburg in Germany, where Ivo worked as a soloist until 1999, and where Ivo danced title-roles in the choreographies of Hans Wrona and of Yurek Makarowski. Ivo danced among others:- - Drosselmeier in the Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker";- - Don José in "Carmen" by Rodion Schedrin;- - Pierrot in "Pierrot Lunaire" by Schoenberg;- - Joseph in "Joseph"s Legende" by R.Strauss.

In Wurzburg Ivo had the opportunity to choreography several ballet workshops, as well as the choreographies for the actors theatre: e.g. the German first production of "Top Dogs" by Urs Widmer (1997).

In 1999 Martin Schlaepfer engaged him for the Ballet Mainz, where Ivo danced among others in the following choreographies: - George Balanchine's "Allegro Brillante";- - Hans van Manen ("Five Tangos", "In and Out", "Concertante");- - Nils Christe ("Before Nightfall", "Purcell Pieces", "Fearfull Symmetries");- - Nicolo Fonte's "En los segundos ocultos";- - Kurt Joos's "Der Grune Tisch";- - Samuel Wuersten's "Bridget".

Ivo also danced the repertory choreographies of Martin Schlaepfer: "Divertimento", "Strange fruit", "The Four Seasons", "Vespers", "Last Sleep"; and his worldpremieres: "Appenzellertaenze", "Drittes Klavierkonzert", "Vom Winde Beweint", "Concerto Grosso", "Kunst der Fuge", "Feuervogel", "Musica Ricercata", "Partita No.6", "Frogs and Crows", "Violakonzert" and "In my day and night".

Ivo had also the opportunity to present my successful choreography "Kochana Op.6" to music of Henri Wieniawski in the Ballet Programme IX of Ballet Mainz.
Ivo van Zwieten about his work

An invitation from the Noverre Society Stuttgart gave me the wonderful opportunity to work with the Stuttgart Ballet, where I created my „6“ for six dancers. On the 7th of April 2007 I presented my choreography „Neshika“ to the music of a young Israeli composer Didi (Adi) Erez, in The Mia Arbatova Ballet Gala of Nira Paaz at The Suzanne Dellal Centre, Tel Aviv, Israel (recorded by Yakov Levit). At the 28th of June 2007 my „6“ had premiere with the dancers of the Guatemala Ballet, in the Miguel Angel Asturias Theatre, Guatemala City, Guatemala. I presented my choreography „Sardonyx“, a male solo to the music of Brahms Piano Concerto No.1, Adagio, at the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe on the 7th of August 2007. Recently Mr. Prof. D. Kühn, professor of clarinet at the Music Academy Hanns Eisler Berlin, invited me to choreograph in co-operation with his students a new dance-project to the music of Dmitri Schostakowitsch. I created my choreography „Miniaturen“ performed in the Krönungskutschensaal of the Music Academy Berlin on the 1st of February 2008.
